Port Credit Academy of Martial Arts teaches traditional Goju Ryu Karate Do, a centuries-old Okinawan style that blends hard linear striking with soft circular movement. Hanshi Doyle is a 9th-degree black belt who has trained with masters in Okinawa, the USA, and Canada.
Our Juniors program is built for ages 3-4 and our Kids program for ages 5-12, both with age-appropriate drills, games, and milestones. Older teens and adults train together in our Karate, Tai Chi, and Kardio Kicks™ (fitness kickboxing) classes.
Yes. New students are welcome to try a class for free before committing. It's the best way to meet the instructors, walk through the dojo, and feel the energy of a real Port Credit Academy of Martial Arts class.
Comfortable athletic clothing is fine for your first session. If you decide to continue, you'll get a Karate gi and we'll show you how to wear it properly. Bring water and an open mind.
Both. Our Karate program runs for students 13 and up, and we also offer Tai Chi for a calmer traditional practice and Kardio Kicks™ fitness kickboxing for a high-energy striking workout. Many adults train alongside their kids.
There is no shortcut; most students take five to seven years of consistent training to test for shodan. The goal isn't speed, it's lasting skill and personal growth. Hanshi Doyle has personally graded over 450 black belts at Port Credit Academy of Martial Arts.
