At just six years old, Abby is already making powerful moves—literally and figuratively—at the Port Credit Academy of Martial Arts. She began her journey in the summer of 2024 with a spark of curiosity and hasn’t stopped moving since.
What inspired her to join?
A tryout class with Mr. K where she learned self-defense techniques that made her feel strong and excited. But ask Abby what her favourite part of karate is now, and her answer is clear:
“I love doing my kata—because you get to do so many moves without stopping!”
Kata, a structured form of movement and focus, is more than just a sequence—it’s where kids like Abby learn discipline, balance, memory, and confidence through motion.
Outside the dojo, Abby is full of energy and enthusiasm. She juggles hockey, swimming, dance, and playing with her sister—but she still makes time to train, learn, and grow in karate.
When we asked what she’d say to a friend who’s never tried martial arts before, her answer was simple and from the heart:
“I would show them karate so they would like it!”
That’s what karate does—it inspires by example. Kids see their peers moving, focusing, and growing—and they want to be part of it too
